A Shot Of Açaí

Four Berry Breakfast Smoothie
Açaí berry is the new superfood that is widely growing recognition all over the world. Harvested from Amazonian palm, they have the right mix of mystery and difficulty of sustaining cultivation outside the equatorial belt to render it as the next exotic food must-have. Nevertheless, as far as the foodie in me goes, I do like their taste a lot.
I often end up gulping shot glasses of Açaí berry juice raw without any accompaniment. Hey, but that is me. I definitely wouldn't recommend that  you do it, unless you are a juice aficionado.
So what makes Açaí so desirable? Although not in the same league as pomegranate juice and red wine, the polyphenols present in the juice of this berry is definitely cardio-protective. That being said, their ability to burn fat is questionable at best. So I wouldn't recommend any of those umpteen fad diets available with these berries.

So without much ado, and presenting this only as a food item, and not some manna, I present you my yummilicious four berry smoothie. It has no refined sugar, contains yoghurt and blackberry, raspberry and blueberry along with the Açaí. This is an ideal way to start your day should you get a hold of Açaí.

You Will Need:

1 cup of chopped blackberries
1 cup of blueberries
The Açaí Berry
1 cup of raspberries
1 cup of yoghurt
1/2 of acai berries
1/2 of cold water
A squirt of lemon juice (preferably freshly squeezed)
1 tablespoon of Agave juice (If you don't have agave, just use honey. I am allergic to honey so I use this natural cactus juice sweetener instead)
A sprig of mint (optional. I use it to have a fresher tasting smoothie)

Method:

Come on people, its a smoothie. Could it get any easier?
Nevertheless, for the sticklers.
1. In an electric blender, pour all the ingredients and blend till a smooth emulsion is formed.
2. I don't strain my smoothies. I drink it with seeds and all. If you want, go ahead and strain away.
3. Serve chilled and enjoyed a fully recharged day!

ps: Should you not get a hold of Açaí, fret not, just replace them with cranberries and leave out the lemon juice.
